It took a wee while but here it is at last. Footage from the first of the two flashmobs performed on Bridge Road on Sunday 1st March.
Thanks to everyone who came to practice on the Saturday mornings throughout February and then got up and danced their way down the street! You were all awesome guys!
As well as everything else we had happening on 1st March (flashmob, open day, free group classes, dance party, latin music DJ and live drumming, I’m knackered just writing about the lot of it!) there were also a couple of performances of Bronze Showcases Medals on Open Day at the latin dance party.
Chanel danced an Argentine Tango to “Hey Gypsy Boy” by Jimi Hendrix. The unusual choice of music made for a very different style of movement and choreography than you would normally see in this style of dance. The idea to try it came from Chanel and we think that she danced brilliantly.
Lucy danced a Swing routine to “Hey Pachuco” by The Royal Crown Revue. It’s fast and fun and is over much too quickly. Lucy really attacked this one with enthusiasm and energy and it’s great to see her dancing and performance skills getting better and better every time she gets up on the dance floor
Our last practice for the flashmob is this Saturday 28th Feb. at 11:30am.
If you’ve not been along before, then this is you last chance get involved in an exciting event.
Remember, you don’t have to have been dancing for a decade to join in. There is even a final section of the dance where all you need is enthusiasm, no dance experience required, so get your friends and family into it too!

Everyone involved is to meet at Phoenix Dance Studio at 12:00 for last minute practice and questions before we all head out onto Bridge Rd.

On Sunday 1st March Bridge Rd. will be hosting the Global Gathering event with great food and all kinds of other cool stuff happening.
As well as hosting an open day at the studio and having our first dance party of the year, Phoenix Dance Studio is organising a flashmob.
It will be performed twice at two different parts of Bridge Rd, once at 12:30pm and then at 3:30pm.
It’s based on Samba, but don’t panic, you don’t have to be a samba expert to be involved. This is open to everyone, whether taking lessons at Phoenix or not, whether you’ve ever danced before or not. You just have to be excited about dancing in the flashmob.
Throughout February, the Saturday morning 11:30 class is FREE and will be used to practice for the flashmob. Even if you can’t make it to all the sessions, you can still be a part of the dance.
Use the video clips to help with your practice and share them with anyone that you think might be keen to join in. Your dentist, your classmates, your sister, your nanny or your parole officer. Get them all along, the more bodies we have on the day, the better it will be.
On Sunday 1st March we’re having an open day at Phoenix Dance Studio.
Meet our instructors, have a FREE lesson, enter into our prize draw and giveaways and watch the Dance Demos! Everyone welcome and bring your friends!
With free taster dance classes throughout the afternoon, we will tie in with the Bridge Road Global Gathering
Come and join in the classes but don’t disappear afterwards, we also have our flashmob to perform on Bridge Road during the day and that evening we will be hosting a fantastic Latin Dance Party from 4pm-6pm!
Our first function for the year is the Latin Dance Party on 01/03/2015 from 4pm till 6pm.
It’s going to be great! We’re starting nice and early to follow on from all the fun happening on Bridge Rd. with the Global Gathering, the flashmob and our own open day.

We are super excited to announce that our Latin Dance Party will have Melbourne’s best Latin Music DJ, Mick Williams (host the fantastic PBS Radio show “Latin Connection”), playing the best tunes, rhythms and beats to keep you on your feet. This man knows and loves latin music with a passion, so do your ears a favour and make sure you get yourselves along to our Latin Dance Party on 01/03/2015!
Sunday 1st March is Samba Flashmob day!
As part of the Bridge Road Global Gathering, Phoenix Dance Studio will be organising a samba flashmob to travel from Church St. to Richmond Town Hall and then later on from Cafe Niche to the studio.
You don’t have to be confident with your samba, or even have done any at all, to join in. All that’s needed is some excitement and enthusiasm for the event! Ask your friends if they want to join in too, the more the merrier. If you’ve ever watched a flashmob then you’ll know that bigger numbers really help it go off with a bang, so ask around.
To get ready, the Saturday morning group classes during February will be used to learn the routine and we will post clips on our YouTube channel of the different sections for you to practice.
There will be lots of things happening on Bridge Rd. on the day as well so hang about, try some of the food and enjoy yourselves.

Start the year dancing with our Salsa Crash Course.
1 week. 5 Sessions.
Starting on Monday 26th January and running through to Friday 30th January every evening at 6pm.
Cost is $75 for the week, but if you book by Friday 16th Jan then you only pay $50.
By the end of the week you will have covered all the base moves of Salsa dancing. You will feel the fitness benefits as you move to the energetic music whilst using your core muscles to create that fantastic Salsa style.

Phoenix Dance Studio is now open again after the festive break. All group classes and private lessons are back on as usual so get yourselves in and dancing.

There’s tons of stuff coming up. There will be more details about each event as they get closer (and you can always ask your instructor if you want more information) but here are the dates to put into you diary and save.

A fantastic night of dancing before Christmas and the New Year. Come and celebrate with us, have a drink with friends and dance the night away!
It’s a christmas theme so dress is festive. Bring a plate to share with your friends. For those who wish to participate we have a group class to kick start your dancing for the evening. Not to mention loads of great music… and yes we will be including all your favourite christmas numbers!
